Why use LED?

Light emitting diodes (LEDs) have been used for years, primarily in the electronics industry for circuit board mounted indicator lights. Increased performances (brightness), lower production costs and the availability of a variety of colors have led to the successful use of LEDs in replacing incandescent lamps found in architectural, commercial and industrial applications.

Benefits of LED Technology
Long life
Reduction of maintenance costs
Decrease of electric costs by up to 90%
Vibration resistant solid-state electronics
Low heat generation
Variety of colors available
Wide range of voltage applications

LED Components Selection

How to choose a quality & Reliable Light Emitting Diode (LED)

Chapter 1 : Chips Selection

LED (Light Emitting Diode) will replace the bulb in the future (5-10 years), everybody in the world is chasing to make something out of this trendy technologies possible for their own use or business use.

However, selection of good LED components become important to those people who like to make thing happen.

Selection of LED start from selection of Chips technology. There are practically 3 types of chips technology available in the market :
  • AlGaAs
  • AllnGaP
  • InGaN

Different type of chips emit different color. For example AlGaAs will only emit hyper red, AllnGaP will emit Red, Amber, Yellow & Yellow Green. Then InGaN will emit True Green & Blue. The emitting of WhiteLED is based on mixture of Yellow phospher and blue Chips from InGaN.

I will continue to explain the LED packaging selection in the next chapter.
